The MAMBO Residencies

The MAMBO Residencies programme is a cornerstone of the newly established MAMBO Research Centre. It explores the integration of digital tools with artistic and investigative practices in museums. The programme provides emerging thinkers and researchers from diverse disciplines with the opportunity to interact with the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art, fostering research, dialogue, and co-creation. This year, we are offering three types of residencies:

  • Digital Residency
  • Research Residency
  • Curatorial Residency

Residency Details:

  • Application Period: 8 July to 19 July 2024
  • Start Date: 5 August 2024
  • End Date: 4 October 2024
  • Focus: Utilising the MAMBO collection, archive, and/or exhibition programme as the primary resource for research-creation projects.
  • Support: Participants will receive a stipend of 3,000,000 COP / 1,000 CAD, supported by the New Frontiers in Research Fund of the Government of Canada.
  • Mentorship: The programme includes a series of mentorship sessions aimed at expanding knowledge of contemporary museum practices.

About the Open Call

The call for MAMBO Research Centre Residencies was open from 8 to 19 July 2024. During this period, we received 184 applications from a diverse range of nationalities: Colombia (132), followed by Mexico (20), Argentina (6), Chile (5), and Spain (4). There were also candidates from Venezuela (3), Ecuador (3), Peru (2), El Salvador (2), the United States (2), as well as Brazil (1), Portugal (1), Uruguay (1), Switzerland (1), and Costa Rica (1).

The jury for the first edition of the MAMBO residencies consisted of Eugenio Viola, Artistic Director of the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art; Juaniko Moreno, Curator of MAMBO; Susana Vargas, Coordinator of the MAMBO Research Centre; and Elly Yazdanpanah, Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of British Columbia (Iran-Canada).

A preliminary selection of candidates who met the requirements was made. Subsequently, the proposals of approximately 10 candidates per residency were reviewed. In total, 7 candidates were invited for interviews, from which 4 finalists were selected.
